Free community event expected to provide 125 eye exams and prescription glasses, more than 75 dental screenings, help neighbors recover 50 birth certificates, and more free services in one EPIC day.
Edgewood, Md. (August 11, 2026) – The EPICENTER Community Center will host EPIC Connect on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The EPICENTER at Edgewood, 1918 Pulaski Highway, Edgewood, Maryland 21040. The free event is open to the public and members of the media and will bring together more than 40 nonprofit organizations, businesses, healthcare providers, government agencies, churches, and community partners committed to serving Harford County.
EPIC Connect, presented by APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU), is more than a community resource fair. It is a collaborative effort to remove barriers and provide life-changing services in one location. During the event, The EPICENTER and its partners expect to provide 125 free comprehensive eye exams and pairs of prescription eyeglasses, conduct more than 75 free dental screenings with access to follow-up care, and help neighbors recover 50 certified birth certificates, removing critical obstacles to employment, housing, education, healthcare, and financial stability.
The event’s Vision Clinic, generously sponsored by Harford Mutual Insurance, will provide eligible neighbors with free eye exams and prescription eyeglasses, ensuring individuals and families have access to essential vision care regardless of their ability to pay. Free dental screenings and referrals for follow-up treatment will also be available, helping improve long-term health outcomes for community members.
Neighbors will also have the opportunity to connect with representatives from the University of Maryland Medical System, Harford County Bar Foundation, and more than 40 community organizations providing services related to healthcare, youth development, food assistance, recovery, financial wellness, housing, employment, education, and family support.
“EPIC Connect reflects the very heart of our mission,” said Darrell McDavid, Executive Director of The EPICENTER Community Center. “Every organization represented is here because we believe no one should have to navigate life’s challenges alone. By bringing these partners together under one roof, we can remove barriers, create opportunities, and remind every neighbor that they are seen, valued, and supported.”
The event reflects The EPICENTER’s mission to Empower People. Strengthen Families. Build Community. Through collaboration, EPIC Connect demonstrates how nonprofits, healthcare providers, businesses, faith communities, and government agencies can work together to improve lives and strengthen the community.
As the Presenting Sponsor, APGFCU continues its longstanding commitment to strengthening the communities it serves through meaningful partnerships and community investment. They will also provide free financial wellness checks for anyone in attendance.
“At APGFCU, we believe financial well-being begins with strong, connected communities,” said Breanna Hill, Director of Community Impact at APGFCU. “We are proud to serve as the Presenting Sponsor of EPIC Connect because this event embodies the power of collaboration. When organizations come together to meet essential needs, remove barriers, and connect people with life-changing resources, our entire community benefits.”
EPIC Connect offers compelling visual and human-interest stories for members of the media, including neighbors receiving eye exams and selecting their new prescription glasses, dental professionals providing screenings, families connecting with community organizations, and dozens of partners working side by side to deliver meaningful services. Interviews with community leaders, healthcare professionals, Difference Makers (volunteers), partner organizations, and participating neighbors will be available throughout the event.
